YVES SAINT LAURENT FALL 1987 SKIRT

This gold moiré mini-skirt is from Fall 1987, arguably Yves Saint Laurent's most glamourous era. Historically reserved for court dress and ceremonial finery, moiré enjoyed a dramatic revival in the mid-1980s. On the runway, the look was styled with one of my personal favourite YSL combinations: a richly embellished, cropped gold jacket and a wrap-around sash belt in baby blue which recalled obi and cummerbund traditions. Cut to a high-waisted silhouette, the skirt showcases moiré fabric with rippling, light-catching patterns. It is detailed with angular welt pockets to emphasise the curves of the body. The skirt is lined with tonal gold satin.
